About Massage on the Move

Our Passion, Our Mission, Our Motivation

Wellness for AllIt should come as no surprise to anyone when we say that "Health Care in America" has risen to crisis levels. Costs are skyrocketing out of control both for individuals and for employers. Insurance exclusions are increasing constantly, placing additional financial burdens on companies and families alike. The conventional medical community appears to have adopted a "Cut & Drug" mentality treating degenerative disease as if it were a mere infection. The Pharmaceutical Industry has placed profit above the welfare of the patient having realized long ago that there is "no profit in cure", only in treatment. "Preservation of Life" at all costs (pun intended) has replaced "Quality of Life" as the principal goal of "Health Care", and in case you missed it in the marketing spin now employed by the Insurance and Pharmaceutical giants, "Preventative Care" has come to mean detecting the presence of fatal condition before it kills you, not the actual prevention of the condition in the first place. We are slowly but surely being turned into a country of "dead people walking", and the epidemic of "Metabolic Syndrome" (Obesity, Hypertension, Hypercholesterolemia, and Diabetes) is marching back down the age chart - showing up in younger and younger segments of the population. When it becomes cost effective to advertise glucose meters and Diabtes supplies on television, we should all become very suspicious - especially when we don't see any advertising for the prevention of Diabetes (or high Cholesterol or high Blood Pressure), only the drugs to take or supplies to buy once the condition is present. There is plenty of profit in "treatment", and all of us, healthy or unhealthy, are footing the bill in the form of high insurance premiums and higher taxes. Hopefully you can feel our passion about Health - your health as well as our own.

At Massage on the Move, our Mission is to provide Products and Services that improve the Quality of Life and promote Longevity without having to resort to surgery or drugs, and by doing so, contribute to the Health and Well-Being of all who dwell on this planet.

It is our further Mission to facilitate the recognition of what has been evolving here and to raise the awareness of and responsibility for the state of health among people of all ages. We are being led down a road to a very bad end. We are going willingly, when we should be kicking and screaming.

Why then have we taken on this daunting task? For starters, we're not getting any younger, and as we age, parts just seem to wear out, recovery times are longer, morning aches and pains linger into early afternoon, and certain bodily functions just aren't quite firing on all cylinders. We'll just leave it at that. We are both self-motivated and motivated for the greater good. We are tired of listening to the rhetoric of "preservation for profit". We are tired of being told to self-diagnose and then ask our doctor if "this drug is right for us". We are tired of language that makes symptoms sound like the entire disease or that those symptoms are the cause of the condition. I mean - really - does anyone think that a runny nose is the cause of allergies? We are tired of the FDA peddling approval of drugs that sport a litany of "sometimes fatal" side effects while, at the same time attacking natural products, herbs, supplements, and non-medical treatments as "quackery". We are tired of the growing toxicity around us. We are tired of Potato Chips being labeled as "heart healthy" because they have 50% less fat and the FDA claiming that walnuts are illegal drugs for claiming heart health benefits and threatening to seize the inventory. We are tired of fat people, junk food, processed food, genetically altered food, and food substitutes. Yes - we are motivated. We're not ready to see our names or yours added to the endangered species list. What we do want is for everyone to live a long and happy life free of disease. There's not very much money in that for the big industries. I don't know about you, but I can live with that. (pun intended again)

Our Leader - Bob Grayson, MS, LMT, CPT, EFR

Bob Grayson, LMTI do not particularly like talking about myself nor do I enjoy reciting my Curiculum Vitae in any public forum. I suppose, in this instance, I should say a few things about myself since the road I have taken to the "here & now" is most definitely one less traveled. Things started out rather normally - high school in Plainfield, NJ - undergraduate BA degree in Chemistry from Rutgers, New Brunswick followed by MS in Chemistry also from Rutgers - teaching at Rutgers during graduate school as well. All the while, I was an athlete. A rather average, normal one who played baseball and soccer - I rarely got sick but didn't even wonder why and I would confess that my eating habits were fair at best.

After leaving graduate school in the late 70's and after a few odd jobs in NJ, I stated working for Werner Erhart at the est organization in New York City. I suppose I could spend a page or two just on that...perhaps another time. During my time in New York I met a lot of people from very diverse vocations and backgrounds. At some point during my time in New York, I decided to start running for exercise and weight management. I moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 1979 after leaving est and had two life changing experiences. First, I decided that I was going to run a marathon; and, second, I was introduced to small (not qute yet personal) computers. These events were life changing in that the computer piece set in motion my corporate career which was to span the next 17 years working for companies MicroPro (WordStar), Autodesk (AutoCAD), Sun Microsystems, Unisys, and Enterprise Solutions. Deciding to run that first marathon - I did complete it and ran several more before switching over to triathlon as my endurance sport of choice - started a thought process regarding the way that the human body functions. It is that thought process, the conclusions I have reached through observation and analysis of my personal experiences, injuries, recoveries, and lifestyle, and the reading and continuing education I have undertaken that has brought me to this place at this time. The computer part, however, has made it much easier to create this website. This two lane highway of my adult life has perhaps given me a unique perspective on both the "business of health care" and "health & well being" in a purer sense. I have lost nearly all respect for our conventional medical system, and I am here now because of the latter.

I suppose that the most recent life changing event was the economic meltdown that started in 2008 - yes, I know that it probably started much earlier, but like so many physically degenerative diseases, we really don't notice them until they are too advanced to stop. How about that for an analogy?? My dabbling in internet business and other entrepreneurial ventures came to a screeching halt. My semi-retirement made a U-turn from the direction of full retirement to full un-retirement. I reckon that the term "un-retirement" could be described as being laid off from retirement. Unfortunately this particular type of layoff does not come with unemployment benefits.

Un-retiring was a big deal for me - I was NOT going back to the corporate world even if they would have me, which was unlikely. So after some soul searching and deliberation, I received a sign of sorts. In retrospect, the "signs" had been there for years, just needed to open my eyes a little more. So the old man went back to school and chose massage therapy as the gateway to the other modalities I wanted to deliver all of which required an established state license. Massage school was quickly followed by specialized training, which, along with my 30+ years of personal experience, has filled out the portfolio for now anyway. There is always more to learn, study, and apply and I will pursue that. The human body is perhaps the most complex and least understood organism on the planet; it is certainly the most fascinating. My goal is to provide a means for people to realize the highest quality of life for as long as possible and to help them achieve their personal goals whether that's breaking a world record, walking up a flight of stairs without pain, or getting a sound and uninterrupted night's sleep. So here I am, and I am quite certain I have entered the most exciting and fulfilling years of my life.

Our Philosophy & Approach to MassageTherapy

Longevity with Quality First and foremost, it is our firm belief that Massage Therapy and the diversified modalities we provide to our clients at Massage on the Move are HEALTH CARE. We base what we do on the premise that the human body is capable of taking care of itself when properly cared for and given the many things it needs to function properly. We are not arrogant enough to suggest that we have anything but a superficial understanding of how the human body works, however, we are willing to suggest that we humans are "perpetual stimulus-response organisms" operating so quickly and so far beyond our consciousness that identifying the "root cause" of a symptom or condition is an exercise in futility. Our lives are nothing but a chain reaction that may or may not have had an identifiable beginning and may or may not have an end. We believe that the human being is a manifestation of quantum physics and relativity on a grand scale. As health care practitioners, our job can only be to provide stimuli that will initiate or accelerate a cascade of positive responses in the body; we are facilitators - you are your own healer.

Consistent with our philosophy, our approach to massage therapy is grounded in the ability of the body to heal itself. Certainly over the course of my life, I have watched the aggregate toxicity of our environment increase at an alarming rate. Our bodies are designed to cleanse, repair, and regenerate from the inside, however we must be able to keep pace with the damage that is being done by our lifestyle and our environment. To the degree that the body is forced to focus on one area, other areas are let vulnerable to injury, infectious disease, and degenerative conditions. Even under the most optimum of dietary and lifestyle, we are fighting against that increasing toxicity of air, water, stress, and chemicals that we come in contact with every day. We offer diversified therapies and an integrative approach in order to provide a personalized program of care for our clients. Whether you want a relaxing Swedish Massage, relief from chronic or acute pain, or a complete lifestyle coaching system, Massage on the Move will work with you.

Our Focus - Your Health & Quality of Life

Longevity with Quality For us at Massage on the Move, we base our entire existance on your Health and your Quality of Life. We have no delusions about the conventional medical community calling us "alternative" (to their "primary") practitioners, and that's if they are even willing to extend the courtesy of calling us practitioners at all. Massage Therapists rarely get to ride in the front of the "alternative health care" bus either. We know that, but here's the thing, and there's no getting around it: Our focus is on you, on your health, on your well-being, & on your quality of life. Regardless of our ages, we all have goals - things we want to do and the way we would like to feel physically, mentally, and emotionally. And to that end, since we are also all human, we have limitations.

Our job is to chip away at those limitations with you - bringing you that much closer to your goals. Whether you just need a nice, relaxing Swedish Massage; you would like to get some relief from nagging pains; you want to accelerate your recovery from injury or surgery; you want to get back to your athletic training after an event; or you want to establish a new personal best for yourself at any sport - Massage on the Move offers services and therapies to help. Sometimes we will take giant steps and sometimes we will take baby steps, but all are steps in the right direction. We are here for you. Let's get started!
