From time to time, we have all seen a chair massage set up regardless of whether or not we have ever gotten one ourselves. Maybe it was in the airport, at the mall, or at a convention or trade event. The delivery of chair massage treatments has many variations and advantages over table massage. The chair itself has evolved to the point where it is possible for the therapist to position the client in nearly the same way as they would on a table. Massage on the Move uses the Pisces Productions Dolphin Chair for this very reason. We believe that this is the most comfortable chair on the market and, because it is continuously adjustable (as opposed to having several pre-set positions), we can afford our clients the most relaxing postures during the session. Given the short durations of chair massage when compared with table, this allows us to produce the best possible result. If the therapist is fighting with the chair or if either the therapist or the client feel uncomfortable with their posture, the resulting massage is not going to be as effective as it could be.
I think that the differences between chair and table massage methods really comes down to three distinct isuues. First would be the purpose of the massage - why are we doing it and how do you want to feel afterwards. The second relates to the constraints of the location where the treatment is being applied. The third is all about time - both the amount of time the client has for the massage itself and how the treatment fits into the broader schedule for the day.
When we talk about time, we are not just referring to the actual amount of time spent in the chair or on the table. If you go to an establishment for a table massage (clinic, spa, salon, chiropractor's office to name a few), you have to consider the travel time back and forth, the time undressing and re-dressing, time doing paperwork, and the time of the treatment itself. Even if the therapist comes to your location with a table, there will be time spent setting up and breaking down the table, paperwork again, undressing and re-dressing again, and the time on the table. Chair Massage is of shorter duration, usually only 15-20 minutes. You remain fully clothed. There is little or no paperwork, and the location is almost always a place where you already are - in other words, no extra travel. When it's finished, you can get right back to your day. There are certain inconveniences associated with table massage when your schedule is packed with things to do. What would be the point of a nice relaxing, de-stressing table massage if, as soon as it was finished, you were tossed right back into the stress of your day.
That brings us right to differences in purpose between chair massage and table massage. Leaving the clinical nature of a therapeutic massage aside for the moment and focusing more generally, most clients will have a table massage to really unwind and relax. This is great - indulging in aromatherapy and enjoying that melting away feeling. But what about when you really don't have time for "melting"; what about when you need to shed some of the stresses of the day and need a little shot of energy to get you through the rest of the day? That's where chair massage is perfect. What we focus on with the chair massage is getting rid of stress induced aches and pains, letting you relax for 15 or 20 minutes, and providing that pick-me-up so you leave feeling relaxed, renewed, and energized.
The other thing about chair massage is convenience. Chairs are lightweight and portable - tables at best are "luggable". Chairs are easily unfolded and folded and are quite comfortable, especially our Pisces Dolphin Chair. The chair does not take up very much space so if we are in a area where others will be moving about, it does not pose a problem. Also from a space perspective, a chair can be easily set up in an office, hotel lobby, promenade, or a small room. Since clients remain clothed, there is less privacy required for the session. Chair massage is a service that is flexible and portable.
I think I'll do this like a David Letterman top 10. The Top Four Chair Massage Applications according to Massage on the Move.
Either in a booth to attract a greater flow of traffic or on a promenade at the show venue. Trade shows and Conventions are grueling events with presenters, exhibitors, and attendees spending long hours on their feet, lugging around big bags full of literature on one shoulder and their laptop cases on the other. Frequently they have to dress in more formal business attire - not the most comfortable for men (suits) or women (high heels). This takes a toll on the body. Frequently compounding his abuse is the crazy agenda of the event where everything seems to run into or overlap with the next thing starting early in the morning and running late into the evening. Massage on the Move can provide a team of therapists with chairs to event management or to individual exhibitors at the event. Depending upon specific hotel restrictions, it may also be possible to offer in room massage after show hours.
With the soaring costs of Health Insurance to employers, seeking to utilize alternative sources of care for employees has become a must in the corporate world. The cost of employment is getting so prohibitively high that companies simply must hire people who are going to be the most productive and efficient. That means healthy, energetic, and alert have become a necessary part of a person's skill set. Implementing a corporate wellness program that includes regular chair massage services is clearly the right way to go. Whether to cost is borne by the employer, the employee, or a little of both, offering massage services will result in a happier, healthier work force. We are all to familiar with that mid-afternoon slump that happens around 2 PM. There could not be a better time to get a visit from Massage on the Move. A nice 15 minute chair massage for employees will leave them energized and alert - ready to finish out the workday. We will work with you to create a wellness program that meets your needs and your budget.
Although it's not our favorite, we think that offering your guests a chair massage as part of your dinner party or poolside barbeque is a great addition that they will be talking about for weeks. Chair massage brings a whole new dimension of catering to a private party event. Indoors or Outdoors, 6 guests or 60, Massage on the Move can provide what is needed to accommodate everyone. It is possible to include table massage as an option as well depending upon the constraints of your event. Make your next party a hit by adding massage to the menu. After golf, during the game, by the pool, before dinner, after dinner, birthday, anniversary, graduation, open house - whatever you choose to celebrate with friends and neighbors, massage can only enhance the experience. Thinking about a block party, chair massage fits perfectly. Talk to us about being a memorable part of your next party.
By far this is our favorite - chair massage at your golf outing. Whether it's a small outing of several foursomes with your buddies or a huge fundraiser for your favorite cause, having chair massage available on several of the tee boxes will improve the game and enhance the experience of the golfers. Put us on the par three's with closest to the pin or hole in one prizes to loosen up those muscles before that "big shot". Have us waiting on the tee of the long drive competition hole. If you are raising money for your charity, we can add an increment to your fund raising efforts. If you want a more comprehensive package, Massage on the Move can take the golfers through a pre-round stretching before heading out to the appointed tee boxes. Offering massage during the round is fun and therapeutic since all who play the game know that the golf swing puts a lot of stress on the muscles and the joints. Look and see if there isn't a massage scheduled for your next golf outing and give us a call at Massage on the Move.
