About Massage on the Move

Massage at the Workplace...

Being a licensed Massage Therapist is not the first career of my life. I have spent my good share of time in the office, on the road, and at trade events when I was wearing my high-tech corporate hat. Those were very high stress times in a very high stress industry, and that's when the economy was doing well. These days the stress levels are through the roof, and that has effects on productivity, mental clarity, and overall effectiveness of the organization. All up and down the corporate ladder, no individual is spared. Collaboration decreases and absenteeism increases as stressed employees sucumb to the virus du jour. Let Massage on the Move help you to optimize employee productivity by introducing Massage Services to the workday on a regular basis.

We start with a consultation session to determine if and how to proceed. Is chair massage the best option? Are their rooms where we can set up both tables and chairs, while offering some privacy and minimizing the distraction to other employees. Who gets the massage? (we think it should be everyone). What type of payment structure works best? Is there interest in therapeutic services to prevent workplace related injuries (e.g. carpal tunnel syndrome). Give us a call and we'll arrange for a consultation with management or human resources at your organization.

Individual - Stress + Energy = Productivity

In Sports Massage, one of the specific sessions is known as a pre-event massage. This session is relatively short lasting from 7 to 10 minutes and is used to prepare the athlete to compete. It would not be especially productive to do a soothing, relaxing massage on an athlete just before an IronMan competition. The goal is to wake up the muscles, energize the athlete, and put them in a state of readiness for their event. At other sporting copetitions such as swim or track meets, an athlete may be entered into to one or more events or may have to compete in one or more heats of a single event. Here we use what is called an intra-event massage. A bit longer than the pre-event counterpart, this method is used to relax the athlete from the previous event but also to ready them for their next effort.

In the office environment, employees are the working versions of those athletes and the workday can be like running a marathon. The stresses are different (as are the outfits), but the dynamics are the same. As employers, we want our managers and staff to be at their best throughout the work day. We know however that there is that time in the mid-afternoon when energy levels seem to drop and productivity along with it. Heads start bobbing in front of computer screens and in meetings - you know the drill.

Using Sports Massage techniques with either a massage chair or a table if the space is available, Massage on the Move has developed an Intra-Day Sports Massage for Business with the exact same intent as the Intra-Event Sports Massage for Athletes. This is a 10-12 minute massage with two vey specific intended results. First is to relax some of those stressed muscles of the back, neck and shoulders - the ones that are tight from staring at that computer screen and talking on the phone. The second is to re-energize the body so the employee can be ready to complete the workday in the most productive way possible. This technique is most effective when delivered between 1 PM and 3 PM.

Wellness Days, Corporate Events, & Employee Recognition

There are more ways to incorporate (pun intended) massage into your business environment. You can use gift certificates for employee recognition awards. Massage on the Move offers gift certificates for any of our services, packages, classes or series. If you are planning a company golf outing or picnic/barbecue, we'll show up with a team of massage therapists and set up to provide chair, table, and foot massage throughout the day. Trade events are great venues for massage services, especially foot massages. We can set up massage chairs in your booth to attract traffic, stay after hours to work on your booth staff and sales people, or be part of any hospitality events you are hosting. We can also provide more thorough in-room massage for your team if it is in line with hotel or venue policy.

If you just want to test the waters with Massage Services in your Organization, we will work with you to set up one or more Wellness Days. We can start with a morning warm up and stretch in the parking lot before work and set up to do chair and table massage at your establishment throughout the day. It is a documented fact that healthy employees have better attendance records and higher productivity than those who are constantly stressed out. We can help.
